According to lawyers interviewed by RBC, dozens of their clients have received inquiries from the Federal Tax Service regarding their UAE bank accounts. These inquiries sometimes even reach non-residents, and the tax service has generally begun to scrutinize residency more closely.
“While previously exchanges with the UAE were largely formal, since 2024 the tax service has been effectively comparing the incoming information with its own databases. Colleagues have noted a significant increase in client inquiries compared to 2022–2023. Inquiries are particularly frequent regarding notifications of foreign accounts and controlled companies (CCCs)”, — comments Andrei Gusev, Senior Partner at Nordic Star Law Offices.
