In late June, OFAC launched an online portal for petitions for individual sanctions reconsideration (Reconsideration Portal) and published clarifications for petitioners. The resource is designed to streamline the petition process by explaining how to provide all the necessary information at once, rather than waiting for OFAC to request additional information. Currently, lengthy question-and-answer sessions “may delay the effective review of a delisting petition,” the agency explained.
Through the new portal, sanctioned persons also now have the opportunity to request certain information, not classified by OFAC, that formed the basis for the sanctions decision. In this way, OFAC claims to be seeking to make the petition review process more transparent and efficient.
