The special military operation in Ukraine led to a mass exodus of foreign law firms from Russia. It also sparked a transformation of the market: such global changes have not happened in the past 30 years. By the end of 2022, so-called “nyulfs” (new law firms created by international law firms’ former teams) took the place of companies that left the Russian legal market.

Andrei Gusev, Managing Partner of Nordic Star (formerly Borenius Russia), answered “no” to Kommersant Publishing House’s question of whether the new firm might reunite with its former partner, Finnish international law firm Borenius, which left the country.
