Unwarranted debiting of funds from bank accounts has always been a known problem. However, it is becoming more frequent. Maybe it’s because people are using bank cards again and fraudsters are gaining physical access to their card numbers.
An unwarranted debit is one made in excess of the amount stated in the payment document. It can also be a debit made without a corresponding payment document or in violation of legal requirements.
