The pharmaceutical holding “BSS” of billionaire Eduard Zahrabekov has entered into a dispute over the trademark “Istochnik dolgoletiya” / Comment / Delovoy Petersburg

The Intellectual Rights Court (IPR) has scheduled a hearing for February 8 on the claim of BSS LLC, owned by Eduard Zahrabekov (No. 52 in DP’s Billionaire Rating for 2023). The company is requesting the early termination of the protection of the trademark “NPO Source of Longevity” (an inscription on the left side in a semicircle next to a leaf of a tree) for all services of class 44 of the International Classification of Goods and Services (services of medical clinics, alternative medicine, telemedicine, the manufacturing of prescription drugs etc.).

Vera Zotova, a Senior Associate in the Intellectual Property and Information Technologies Practice at Nordic Star, argues that BSS could count on being able to eliminate obstacles to registration, for example, obtaining a letter of consent to use the trademark from NPO LLC “Istochnik dolgoletiya”
